7928, Gloss Dial Submariner, Steel
A ref. 7928 Submariner with a gloss dial and gilt minute track, made for just one year inbetween all the matte dial production in 1966. A very niche collector’s Sub, but with some added history here. First, it is remarkably a full set. The papers note delivery to what looks like a US military PX address, in 1968. But it’s the case that tells the full story, which is hand-engraved ‘JR McCONNELL’, as was standard practice for watches of US military servicemen at the time. It shows heavy patina on all surfaces but is entirely original, unpolished (can say for certain with this engraving), and more beautiful for it.
